Description

Innesbrooke Sheep Farm is looking for an experienced farm assistant to join a family-owned sheep milking farm located 5 minutes from Te Awamutu.

Responsibilities

• Milking sheep and ensuring plant hygiene and somatic cell count standards
• Assisting with weed and pest control for pastures and crops
• Managing and overseeing feeding diets and pasture, including break fencing and feeding out
• Assisting in maintaining feed inventory and quality
• Safely handling animals and reporting health/welfare issues
• Administering animal health requirements (vaccinations, drenching, foot trimming, crutching, bolusing)
• Vehicle and equipment maintenance
• Managing day-to-day staff operations when the Farm Manager is away

Requirements

• Previous farming/dairy farm experience necessary
• Strong understanding of pasture management and feed budgeting
• Experience in dairy milking methods and shed/plant hygiene
• Practical experience in fencing, weed spraying, and effluent/irrigator use
• Feeding out and animal handling experience
• Knowledge of animal welfare
• Experience with farm machinery (motorbikes, tractors, feed out wagons, utility vehicles)
• Ability to conduct farm maintenance including mowing
